Independent. Physician-owned. We care about our Community.
At The Family Health Centers, we aren't just your family doctors; we are your neighbors. We understand that our Community is made up of unique individuals, each of whom deserve high-quality family care. Because we are physician-owned, we have the flexibility to make decisions that are in the best interests of our patients and all members of our community. Both our established patients and non-patients receive the best possible attention and care. Please visit this Web site to learn about upcoming free screenings at area health fairs and community events.
Our patients at The Family Health Centers are very important to us and we want to help them make sure their wishes for end of life care are honored. We are offering FREE workshops in collaboration with MAHEC, which will include an Advance Directive facillitator leading an open discussion regarding Advance Directives and one-on-one assistance completing and notarizing your Five Wishes forms. Patient Advisory Council
The Family Health Centers works with a Patient Advisory Council that helps us continually improve our quality of care. The voluntary Council is made up of patients, Physician Champion, Dr. Wendy Coin, Project Leader, Terry McLane, CEO, Project Coordinator, Assistant to the CEO, Gayle Connell, and office supervisors, Diana Fisher (Asheville), April Ballew, (Arden) and Jackie Plemmons (Hominy Valley). Patient Advisory Council members serve one 24-month term. As you can see by our portrait, we work hard but we also have fun! If you are interested in joining our Patient Advisory Council, please call Gayle Connell at (828) 210-3697.
Volunteer work with ABCCM
The Family Health Centers provides volunteer primary medical care for the uninsured at Asheville-Buncome Community Christian Ministries (ABCCM) every month. The goal of the ABCCM program is to offer medical care to those who cannot pay and to fill the gaps for medical, dental and pharmaceutical services. Twelve of The Family Health Centers’ doctors and clinicians volunteer with ABCCM each year. We are proud to support this essential community service.
FHC Dog Team-Cancer Detection Canines
The Family Health Centers has teamed up with Terri Boyd owner of Blue Ridge Medical Detection Dogs (seen with Maya in above picture) in the quest to detect cancer in the early stages of the disease. The goal is to develop an accurate, low-cost, non-invasive general cancer screening method that would find the disease in the earliest stages, when there are few or no symptoms and the cancer is still localized. You can read more about FHC's involvement in this wonderful program by opening this page.
