Brandan Adcock, DO joined The Family Health Centers in September 2013. He graduated from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia and completed his residency at The University of Tennessee Family Practice Residency in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Dr. Adcock sees patients in the Hominy Valley office and is the younger brother of Rustan Adcock, MD, who works at our Asheville office.
Rustan Adcock graduated from Duke University with a BA in English in 1995. After teaching English in Japan and Georgia, he decided to follow in his father‘s footsteps and become a family practice physician. He earned his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire in 2003. He completed his residency at MAHEC here in Asheville in 2006. Dr Adcock loves spending time with his wife and three children, exploring western North Carolina and beyond. In his free time he enjoys mountain biking, trail running, CrossFit and yoga. He is a partner in the corporation, has been with The Family Health Centers since 2006 and is located in our downtown Asheville office.
Dana Arrington received her undergraduate degree and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. She completed an ASHP-accredited Community Pharmacy Residency at Kerr Drug in Asheville in conjunction with Campbell University School of Pharmacy. In addition to serving as Clinical Pharmacist at The Family Health Centers, Dr. Arrington is also the Pharmacy Program Director at Community Care of Western North Carolina, where she manages clinical pharmacy services for patients in an eight-county region. Her areas of focus include helping patients identify motivators and barriers to lifestyle changes and establishing plans to successfully achieve goals. Dr. Arrington is seeing patients at all offices including Asheville, Arden and Hominy Valley.
Dr. Balentine joined The Family Health Centers in August 2016. She completed her Doctor of Osteopathy degree at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA, and graduated from the Family Medicine Residency Program at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center (an affiliate of UNC, Chapel Hill) in Wilmington, NC. Dr. Balentine's professional interests include Women's Health, Pediatric Care and Osteopathic Manipulation. Dr. Balentine is accepting new patients at our Arden Office.
Alan Baumgarten, who has a Master's Degree in Public health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, graduated from Michigan State University-College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan in 1983, and completed his residency at MAHEC here in Asheville in 1986. Dr. Baumgarten, who is a partner in the corporation, has been with The Family Health Centers since 1988, and is located at our downtown Asheville office.
Richard (Rick) Burris graduated from East Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina in 1985 and completed his residency at MAHEC in Asheville in 1988. Dr. Burris, who is a partner in the practice, has been with The Family Health Centers since 1999 and is located at our Arden office. Dr. Burris currently serves as IT Director.
Wendy Coin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990 and completed her residency at MAHEC here in Asheville in 1993. Dr. Coin, who is a partner in the Corporation, served as our most recent Medical Director through 2016. She has been with The Family Health Centers since 1995. Dr. Coin is welcoming new patients at our downtown Asheville office.
Dr. Jason Cook joined The Family Health Centers in 2014. A native of Eastaboga, Alabama, Dr. Cook graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Religion from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. He attended The University of Alabama School of Medicine, and went on to complete his residency with the Mountain Area Health Education (MAHEC) Family Medicine Program in Asheville. Dr. Cook is a National Merit Scholar and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Along with his wife and young son, Dr. Cook spends his free time enjoying the outdoors as well as Asheville's vibrant neighborhood locales. Dr. Cook's special interests include advanced headache management, pediatrics, dermatology and sports medicine. Dr. Cook is accepting new patients at our Arden location.
Natalie Dorsey joined the practice in 2014. She earned her Physician Assistant-Certification (PA-C) from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA in 2011. Ms. Dorsey also holds Teaching and Child Development degrees from Appalachian State University. Natalie Dorsey is accepting patients at our Hominy Valley office in Candler.
Laura Dressel graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 2003, and completed her residency at MAHEC in Asheville in 2006. She joined The Family Health Centers in 2007 and is a partner in the corporation. Dr. Dressel is currently the co-Medical Director of the practice. Her professional interests are nutrition, women's and children's health and holistic approaches to health. She lives in Asheville with her partner, Terri, and their three dogs and three cats. They enjoy hiking with their dogs, travel, college football and live music. Dr. Dressel practices at our Hominy Valley office in Candler.
Allie Fay graduated with her Doctorate in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy in Ada, OH in 2016. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Community Care of North Carolina in 2017, and then went on to complete her PGY2 Ambulatory Care & Academia Residency with MAHEC and UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2018. Dr. Fay works with our physicians to help patients manage chronic conditions and optimize medication regimens. Her other practice interests include preventative care and population health, and access to affordable medications. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, live music, and exploring the newest spots in Asheville. Dr. Fay welcomes patients at our Hominy Valley and Asheville locations.
Jason Goldie, MD graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia in 2006 and completed his residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine in 2009. Dr. Goldie, along with Dr. Laura Dressel, is the co-Medical Director of the practice. Dr. Goldie has been with the Family Health Centers since 2009, and is a partner in the corporation. He is located at our downtown Asheville office.
Accepting new patients for appointments starting Sept. 1. Dr. Graham combines a traditional Family Medicine background with global Public Health experience, having worked in resource-limited settings in Indonesia and Africa in recent years. Dr. Graham is passionate about primary healthcare and education, and particularly enjoys Orthopedic Sports medicine, having completed a fellowship at MAHEC Family Practice Residency Program. He also enjoys caring for the Pediatric population and providing Contraceptive Care. Recently, he has also become an advocate for patients suffering from Gender Dysphoria, and does provide Hormone Replacement Therapy for those in need. He and his wife founded and are active in Mama Maisha, a Safe Motherhood intervention project in rural Tanzania, but enjoy most of the year in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Dr. Graham will practice at our downtown Asheville office.
The Family Health Centers welcomes Dr. Sydney Hendry in 2019. Dr. Hendry is pleased to use her experience to provide the full scope of primary care to new and established patients of the practice. She earned a BA in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Hendry completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Her residency was completed in Pittsburgh, PA, at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. For two years, Dr. Hendry served as Assistant Professor for the Family Medicine Residency at UNC, Chapel Hill. She joins The Family Health Centers following more than two years as the Medical Director of the Mission Chronic Condition Clinic in Asheville. Dr. Hendry’s professional interests include women’s health, Hep-C treatment, PrEP, Lifestyle Medicine and providing a positive experience for each patient. In her free time, Dr. Hendry enjoys hiking and camping with her husband and children, rowing, and the unique lifestyle offered by the Asheville area. Originally from the great metropolis of Hickory, NC, Todd Hodges completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, his medical degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and his residency at Wake Forest University. In his spare time, he enjoys family time with his wife, young son and ferocious dog Hala. Weekends usually consist of hiking, running, house/yard projects, and grilling out. He’s also active playing soccer through ABASA. Dr. Hodges has been with The Family Health Centers since the Fall of 2012 and is a partner in the corporation. Dr. Hodges practices at our Hominy Valley office in Candler.
Dr. Cameron Kurowski graduated from Wright State University School of Medicine, in Dayton, Ohio in 1995, and completed his residency at MAHEC here in Asheville in 1998. Dr. Kurowski, who is a partner in the corporation, has been with The Family Health Centers since 2002, and is located at our Hominy Valley office in Candler.
Dr. Mark Lenderman graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1990, and completed his residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem in 1993. Dr. Lenderman, who is a partner in the corporation, has been with The Family Health Centers since 1993 and is located at our downtown Asheville office.
Megan Loomis graduated from East Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina in 2006, and completed her residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2009. Dr. Loomis, who is a partner in the corporation, has been with The Family Health Centers since 2009 and is located in our downtown Asheville Office.
Allison McCarty received her BSW from Warren Wilson College in 2009, and her MSW from Western Carolina University in 2012 with an emphasis on geriatric social work. Allison worked for several years as a professional mediator, a role in which she had specific training in eldercare mediations and family decision-making. She has provided care management for older adults at the Council on Aging of Buncombe County. Welcoming patients at our Arden office.
Paul Midkiff graduated from The University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 2004, and completed his residency at MAHEC here in Asheville in 2007. Dr. Midkiff, who is a partner in the corporation, has been with the Family Health Centers since 2011 and is located in our downtown Asheville office.
Debra earned a BA in Women’s
Studies from San Francisco State
University, and a Master’s degree in
Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill
in 2012. She has more than 15 years
of experience including working
with breast cancer patients, those
experiencing grief as a Hospice
Bereavement Counselor, and with
medically complex patients and
their families at Mission Health. Her
current role is Behavioral Health
Specialist, providing support for
patients with depression. Debra
enjoys being an involved parent and
is an avid swimmer and bicyclist. Consulting with established patients at all offices
Holly Musgrove graduated from Wright State University Medical School in Dayton, Ohio in 1995, and completed her residency at MAHEC here in Asheville in 1998. Dr. Musgrove, who is a partner in the corporation, has been with The Family Health Centers since 2002, and is located at our Hominy Valley office in Candler.
Dr. Lisa Choe Scott joined The Family Health Centers in 2013. She graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in zoology and a minor in Spanish. She went on to the University of South Florida School of Medicine in Tampa, Florida and completed her residency at MAHEC in Asheville. Dr. Scott is active in her church with her husband and four children. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, baking, figure skating, playing music, singing and drawing. Dr. Scott's professional interests include contraceptive management, reproductive health, pediatrics and sports medicine. She is trilingual and can communicate with patients in English, Spanish or Korean. Dr. Scott is working at our Arden location.
Laurie Panzer graduated from Chatham College Master of Physician Assistant Studies in 1998 and has been with The Family Health Centers since 2001. Ms. Panzer is located at our downtown Asheville office.
Cindy A. Stephens achieved a Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Western Carolina University in 2016. The DNP is the highest practice-focused doctoral degree in the nursing profession. Nurses who achieve a DNP know how to apply evidenced-based medical practices to treat patients, especially those with chronic illnesses. Cindy earned her Masters of Science in nursing degree from East Tennessee State University, and achieved board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1998. Cindy also works with our doctors to provide team-based care to patients with Diabetes. Cindy is located at our Arden office.
Michael Stephens graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988, and completed his residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 1991. Dr. Stephens is a partner in the corporation and has been with The Family Health Centers since 1994. He serves as our IT Director and is located at our Arden office.
Rob Steward graduated from The University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville in 1990, and completed his residency at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1993. Dr. Steward is a partner in the corporation and has been with The Family Health Centers since 2002. He practices at our Arden office and our Asheville office. Dr. Steward currently serves as President of The Family Health Centers.
