Why should you establish with a family doctor? Unlike physicians who specialize in treating one particular organ or disease, your family physician is uniquely trained to care for you as a whole person, regardless of your age or sex. In addition to diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, we provide routine health screenings and counseling on lifestyle changes in an effort to prevent illnesses before they develop.
If you need to see a specialist, your doctor at The Family Health Centers will first evaluate your situation in-person. Next your doctor will refer you to someone they know and with whom they have a collaborative relationship. If you have concerns about choosing a specialist, your doctor can help you sort through and prioritize your options. This is another way that The Family Health Centers serves as your "Medical Home." Your family doctor not only manages your care at The Family Health Centers, she or he also keeps track of the care provided to you by specialists.

Opioid Policy here
Prescription Opioids are prescribed to treat moderate to severe acute or chronic pain when other treatments are not adequate. They can be very helpful in some circumstances but come with very serious risks, including serious injury and death.
Pharmacy / Prescription refills
Please contact your Pharmacy to request refills of routine medications. You many also request refills using your My Health Record Patient Portal account. These new options will, in most cases, provide faster refills and will help ensure that your prescriptions are filled safely. Prescriptions for new medications require an office visit. The Family Health Centers also offers the services of Dr. Ally Fay and Dr. Dana Arrington, Doctors of Pharmacy who help patients manage chronic conditions and optimize medication regimens.
After hours contact for established patients
If you need to speak with the On-Call Physician after normal business hours, please call 828-258-8681 and you will be directed to our answering service. The On-Call Physician will respond within an hour of receiving the message. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please dial 911. If you have a non-emergency question, you may send a message through the MY HEALTH RECORD Patient Portal.
My Health Record online portal
As a patient of The Family Health Centers, you can have FREE online access to your personal health records via your own MY HEALTH RECORD Patient Portal. To request an account from this web site, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (888) 670-9775. Link to portal here.
Established patients do not need to speak to a nurse for a same-day sick appointment. Call our main number and press 1 for Scheduling. Or, visit our walk-in clinic, at every location, Monday-Friday from 8 am to 11 am for simple acute medical problems. Missed appointments: We understand that our patients sometimes forget or miss an appointment. If you miss an appointment, we will attempt to contact you at least three times to reschedule your appointment. The Family Health Centers does not charge our patients for missed appointments. However, patients who miss more than three appointments in a twelve-month period may be subject to dismissal from the practice.
When appropriate, your family doctor will refer you to a specialist. At The Family Health Centers, a referral that has not been previously discussed with your family doctor requires an office visit. We ask that your visit so that we can provide necessary information to the specialist's office, and, to ensure that we meet your insurance company's requirements for coverage.
All referrals for testing outside of The Family Health Centers are coordinated by our Referral Department. Our Referral Department or the specialist's office should contact you within one week about scheduling your appointment. For questions regarding referrals that have already been made, or to leave a message about a referral that was planned, please call our main number, Option 2, and leave a detailed message. Patient Centered Medical Home
Recognition for Patient Centered Medical Home is a program that emphasizes the use of systematic patient-centered, coordinated care management processes. All three locations have been recertified from November 2013 through November 2016.
This program is for an elite group of providers who are recognized for their skill in providing the highest level of diabetes care for their patients.
Physician Practice Connections
This program recognizes practices who use up-to-date information and systems to enhance their patient care.
This program recognizes physicians who provide high quality care to patients with cardiac conditions or who have had a stroke.
